Trerieve organic farmTrerieve is a 150 acre mixed farm on the south east coast of Cornwall. The farm, which is rented from Cornwall County Council, has fantastic views over the sea, from Looe Island, across Whitsand Bay, to Rame Head. Trerieve has been the home of Jim and Marian Candy for over 20 years, and, with the help of their four sons, an environmentally friendly farm management system which creates an abundance of wildlife has gradually evolved.
Organic farming
The farm has been approved for organic production by the Soil Association since 2001, and now provides opportunities for walking, educational visits and farm based holidays. Come and visit the farm and learn about modern farming techniques which produce food with minimal environmental impact, and enjoy the splendour of the Cornish coastal scenery.
Camping and caravanning
We aim to provide quiet, relaxing holidays at Trerieve, when you can enjoy nature and the fantastic scenery of south east Cornwall. The caravan and camping field has views across Whitsand Bay to Rame Head. It is sheltered from westerly winds by a hedge, and enjoys good views of the countryside. There are 5 electric hook up points, including one on the hard standing, for wet weather use. Mains water tap and chemical disposal points are sited in the field. Across the lane, which is very quiet, with less than 10 vehicles per day, and adjacent to the house, is the toilet block. One of the toilets, which has a shower, is equipped for disabled access.
Countryside Stewardship
Jim and Marian entered Trerieve into Countryside Stewardship, a DEFRA funded agri-environmental scheme, in 2001. This scheme has helped to provide capital to create the wildlife pond and traditional orchard and the wall that partly encloses it. It has also paid for rebuilding the Cornish hedges, stone faced earth banks, which not only provide shelter for the livestock, but also are a haven for all flaura and fauna.
Some fields have been taken out of arable production, and now contain a fantastic variety of coastal grasses and plants, such as Birds Foot Trefoil. Barley stubbles are also kept over winter to provide an attractive habitat for Cirl Buntings under this scheme” BOES ORGANEK KERNEWEK RAG ONAN HAG OLL 'Cornish organic food for one and all' Marian and Jim Candy, Trerieve Farm, Downderry, Nr Looe, Cornwall PL11 3DJ Tel. 01503250376 Mobile: 07721 065233 info@trerieve.co.uk www.trerieve.co.uk |
